The versatile Zambian horse!

And here is Amanita again, two weeks after the FEI Dressage Challenge, doing her winning round in the Speed Event at the Democratic Republic of Congo International Show!

I'm wondering if the competition is very stiff at this event. Once again the horse's equipment interests me tremendously.

Riders from all over the Region come to this show, we also had a Belgium and French rider this year. The Congolese riders are mostly of Belgium extract or are expats. The show is on the FEI calendar and is considered an International event. Money seems to be no object for most of them and several of the horses competing were imported from Europe.

Amanita jumped in their 'Novice' grade which is 90-100cm. She is 17 years old and had only done dressage in the previous 5 years before we bought her! She is a wild and mad jumper and terrifies the wits out of me - but my daughter seems to cope fine. She has been semi retired this year and will stick to showing and dressage - Castle Rock is the new rising star for the jumping arena!

We have always jumped her in a pelham bridle with the addition of the grakle noseband - not very correct but neccessary for brakes! We also tried using a double bridle last year which worked surprisingly well but required considerable skill. She has a running martingale too as she does tend to throw her head up when she sees JUMPS! Tis very exciting stuff! In dressage she is the model of decorum and very well behaved :)

I love this shot of her turning - I never realised just how well balanced she is - hard to see it when she's jumping since she goes like a bat out of hell despite all efforts to slow her down!

Sounds like the mare is in charge when it comes to jumping. That's not a good thing. I wonder if the fix would be the same thing they do for reiners that want to run off at the big fast circles. I know those horses they run and run and run long past when the horse wants to stop and after a session or two end up with a horse that listens instead of taking charge.

Thanks Jadey :)

More lovely pics to come as soon as I get the girl child to download the camera. Elvis was a bit piggy but we had fun anyway :)

Thanks for the advice Rainbow, we have now retired her from jumping. I think her biggest problem was a really bad accident with her previous owner which made her a bit fearful so she rushes the jumps. In every other respect she is a lovely mare :)

I love it you can see that the horse definetly had some speed going into this turn. What a great pic. The rider is just so composed and looks like they are enjoying it.
